The Jack London Square area dates back to the gold-rush era of the 1800’s, when twice-weekly ferry service shuttled passengers between San Francisco and the East Bay. In 1852, when the State Legislature incorporated the Town of Oakland, the first meeting of the board of Town Trustees was held at Jack London Square. More recently, Jack London Square has transitioned to focus on entertainment and retail uses, with current Ownership, in conjunction with city planners and the Port of Oakland, providing the blueprint to transform the historic and underutilized waterfront into a 24/7 dynamic retail, office, and residential urban environment.
